Tom Holland Confirms Spider-Man 4 Is Officially in the Works

Tom Holland, the star of Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, has confirmed that a new installment, Spider-Man 4, is officially underway. During an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday, Holland expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s happening. Next summer we start shooting. Everything’s good to go. We’re nearly there. It’s super exciting. Yeah, I can’t wait.”

This announcement marks a significant moment for fans who have eagerly anticipated the continuation of Holland’s portrayal of the beloved superhero. Following the success of his previous films, the anticipation for Spider-Man 4 is palpable among audiences and critics alike.

In a separate segment on “Good Morning America,” Holland teased details about the upcoming film, saying, “The idea is crazy. It’s a little different from anything we’ve done before, but I think the fans are gonna really respond to it.” His remarks suggest a fresh direction for the franchise, which has consistently pushed boundaries since Holland first donned the iconic suit.

In a recent interview on the “Rich Roll Podcast,” Holland revealed that he and co-star Zendaya have already read drafts of the script. “I read it three weeks ago, and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and we at times were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect,’” he shared. However, he noted that there are still a few elements that need to be finalized before production can fully commence.

Last month, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to direct Spider-Man 4. Cretton is known for his work on Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” He will take over the directorial reins from Jon Watts, who helmed the previous three Spider-Man films featuring Holland.

The franchise has seen a variety of directorial styles; Marc Webb directed the two “Amazing Spider-Man” films starring Andrew Garfield, while Sam Raimi was at the helm for the original trilogy featuring Tobey Maguire. With Cretton’s fresh perspective, fans are eager to see how he will shape Holland’s next adventure.

Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who have previously worked on the Spider-Man series, are writing the script for the new film. Additionally, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and former Sony Pictures chair Amy Pascal are set to produce, ensuring that the film retains its connection to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As for the plot, details remain under wraps. The conclusion of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” left audiences with significant questions. In that film, the world learned Peter Parker’s identity as Spider-Man, leading to the decision that everyone, including MJ (Zendaya), would forget his secret to protect him. This intriguing twist sets the stage for complex storytelling in the upcoming installment.

Holland’s news about Spider-Man 4 comes on the heels of another exciting announcement: he will star in Christopher Nolan’s latest film alongside Matt Damon. The project is currently in development, with a scheduled release date of July 17, 2026. Holland described receiving the call about working with Nolan as “the phone call of a lifetime,” likening it to when he first learned he had been cast as Spider-Man a decade ago.

“It’s an amazing thing for me. I’m super proud, and I’m really, really excited,” Holland said during his “Good Morning America” appearance. The opportunity to work with a renowned director like Nolan adds another layer to Holland’s already impressive career.
